The “Derviş Sokağı” Book Analysis & Excursion Event, organized by the Islamic Civilization Club on April 28, 2025, offered participants the opportunity not only to read a literary text but also to experience it physically and spiritually. The event transformed into a spatial journey that brought literature to life and a multi-layered cultural experience tracing the footprints of Sufi thought.
In the first part of the program, participants met with author Erkan Övüç, gaining firsthand insight into the writing process of Derviş Sokağı, its background, sources of inspiration, and its connection to the Sufi atmosphere. During the book analysis, the ideas and symbols explored in the text were examined together, with students engaging in an enlightening discussion by exploring different interpretations woven between the lines.
The second stage of the event involved a guided walk in the actual location where the book is set. Participants experienced firsthand the atmosphere described in the text as they walked through this special street, which carries traces of Sufi life embedded in the urban fabric of the Ottoman era. This excursion was not just a physical exploration but a cultural journey through time, following the footsteps of tekkes (Sufi lodges), dervishes, and simple lifestyles.
