The first event of Bonding Occasions that was launched by Health, Culture, and Sports Departments to provide an environment in which various cultures can interact, was held as “Yalda Night” on December 21, Friday. The lecturers of School of Languages, Yassamin Pouriran, and Hoda Arianmanesh talked about Yalda Night that was a significant part of Iranian culture. After Nabi Ebrahimi’s Santoor playing, pomegranate, watermelon, traditional Iranian tea, and nuts are served.
The tradition lives especially in Iran more than 2000 years to celebrate the longest and the darkest night of the year on every December, 21. Friends and families come together at that special night that symbolizes preventing the evils that the night brings, and witnessing the sunrise that also means end of all the evils, to eat pomegranate and watermelon, and make sincere talks until sunrise.
