Organized by the Literature Club on April 18, 2025, the event titled “Mekteb-i Muhabbet: Circles of Companionship in Islamic Thought” took place at Taş Mektep, one of Ibn Haldun University’s historic venues. Participants were invited on both an intellectual and spiritual journey, tracing the legacy of knowledge and companionship gatherings from past to present.
The event explored the historical and cultural role of such circles in Islamic thought, ranging from madrasa gatherings and Sufi lodge conversations to the refined scholarly assemblies of Al-Andalus and Ottoman coffeehouses. Throughout the program, it was emphasized how knowledge, literature, and heartfelt conversation intertwined—and how these gatherings provided not only a space for learning but also a sense of belonging and a quest for meaning.
Held in the timeless atmosphere of Taş Mektep, the gathering offered attendees a chance to reconnect with tradition through heartfelt narratives and thoughtful content. In contrast to the fast pace of modern life, the spirit of these traditional assemblies—rooted in slowness and depth—was met with great interest by participants.
