In this month's event of our "One Writer, One Place" series, we commemorated the journalist-author Akif Emre, who passed away three years ago, in Üsküdar, the neighborhood where he lived and loved very much.
Our event is the meeting point of Akif Emre with his friends, especially the late poet Cahit Zarifoğlu, III. We started at the Ahmed Fountain and under the guidance of writer Asım Gültekin, we made a short cultural tour by visiting Üsküdar's historical and cultural features and some of the prominent places. In this context, We tried to discover different venues such as Mihrimah Sultan Mosque, Şeyh Mustafa Devâti Mosque and Tomb, Hacı Selim Ağa Manuscript Library, Aziz Mahmud Hüdayi Holiness Mosque and Tomb and Yedi Climate Magazine, in Üsküdar, Istanbul and the fertile culture shaped in this geography. With the idea that getting to know and understanding Akif Emre is partly by getting to know Üsküdar, we commemorated Akif Emre at every point we stopped by during our tour, and we had a nice conversation about the deceased with the poet Osman Bayraktar, who knew Akif Emre closely, especially in Yedi Iklim Magazine.
