An informative seminar on "Youth and Mental Health" for our university's student club administrators was held on Tuesday, October 18, 2022 at the Prof. Dr. Teoman Duralı Conference Hall. Representatives from the administrative boards of student clubs attended the seminar where Eyüp Beyazıt, a Social Service Specialist from Başakşehir District Health Directorate, was the speaker.
Eyüp Beyazıt introduced psychological concepts such as emotion, impulse and thought; he talked about how we can manage our inner world in a healthy way. Within the framework of the question of “What is mental health?”, he mentioned that “We need to know that the emotions in our inner world are temporary.” Also, Beyazıt emphasized that we should not hesitate to seek professional support when we feel sad, unhappy, and lonely.
“Life is not just about happiness!”
Social Service Specialist Eyüp Beyazıt, underlined that all emotions in life are important in themselves, stated that life does not gain meaning only with the feeling of happiness, and our negative experiences are part of a process that matures us and develops us psychologically. By sharing the steps of how we should fight the difficulties we face, Beyazıt mentioned that it is possible to manage negative feelings thanks to a compass on this path; He said that this compass is the values that represent the things that a person determines and cares about in life.
Beyazıt also talked about the fact that it is quite natural to be anxious and what methods should be used when necessary, and then he answered the questions of the students by giving the last message “Be aware of the emotions in the inner world”.
Speaking at the end of the program, Social Service Specialist Mükremin Okur underlined the importance of club activities and emphasized that club managers have a significant role in raising social awareness among university students. Finally, Okur talked about the scope of health services and activities of Başakşehir District Health Directorate and stated that they are always open to cooperation with our university's student clubs.
